Okra is a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, as well as vitamin B6 and folic acid. Admittedly, frying it is not for the health-conscious, but at least the good stuff is still there. The way I like okra - and many other people - is breaded and fried.

So, okra is grown mainly in very warm climates and was probably brought to America from Africa three hundred years ago. It looks like a small, ridged pepper, but has a soft, almost fuzzy exterior rather than smooth like a pepper. The flavor is very mild.

Picture this. A slab. A slab of frozen chocolate. A slab of frozen dark chocolate.
Oooh!
Pure ecstasy, you say? I couldn’t agree with you more!
And for those of you who are saying “Uh-uh…” well, you’ll be excused. Most of us start of with milk chocolate, but once the teeth nibble into a brown bar of delight, switching over to the dark side is inevitable. So read on and maybe you’ll join the growing list of converts.
For the slaves of the dark lord, the milks, the whites, the covertures, the mints, the oranges, and what-have-yous, are nothing short of sacrilege.

Choosing the best blender for your budget
Again, when making a whole food Health Smoothie, DO NOT use a juicer, use a BLENDER! The best blender to use for a whole food Smoothie is a Vitamix, Bosch or K-tech. They are high-quality blenders and they come with a large container that can hold up to 60 ounces. They have a strong motor that lasts for years and save time because they quickly liquefy the mixture of vegetables, hard carrots, fruit and supplements. A high-power blender has a strong enough motor to actually blend and retain the fiber.
These high-quality blenders are investments in the $430 range, and the savings created by using a blender instead of a juicer are enormous when you consider the fact that no food volume is wasted, not to mention the decrease in health care costs which will be created by your new levels of health and energy.

Eating a healthy dessert doesn’t have to break the bank. While it’s true that Twinkies and Ding-Dongs do cost less (in dollars) than quality healthy foods, the cost to our health is truly frightening!
Follow these tips for low-cost healthy desserts:
1) Try fruit! Full of natural sugars, and naturally fat free, fruit is a great dessert choice! Fresh kiwi, apples, pears, plums and oranges can all be found for about 50 cents per serving.
2) Fat-free pudding costs only 79 cents per box and is quite low in calories!

Fresh, green, loaded with vegetables and all our other favorite toppings, the salad has satisfied dieters and non-dieters alike for years. Dieters always turn to the salad as a clear indicator that their new “diet” has commenced. A newly dieting person sometimes will comment on how they are “trying to eat more salads and fresh vegetables” instead of their former fatty fares. They proudly order up these green, leafy bowls of goodness with all certainty that their health will improve and their waistlines will diminish. I see these seemingly proud types of people almost daily, yet usually it’s with some trepidation.

A recent study offers us a good reason to raise a glass to a long and healthy life each and every night.
A flavonoid called resveratrol, contained in wine, has been shown to lengthen the lifespans and vitality of chubby mice. Both white and red wine contain resveratrol, but red wine has about 10 times as much as white wine.
In a study conducted by Harvard Medical School and the National Institute of Aging, a group of year-old male mice was fed a normal diet, while another was fed a high-fat diet, and a third the same high-fat diet plus resveratrol.

All hail, ye women of coffee! Yes, I’m talking to you — you late-night freelancers, you hard-studying (or hard-partying) Texas A & M students, you business executives!
